One of the major threats to old age group is dementia with no possible cure till date. There are many kinds of Dementia that includes Alzheimer’s disease, Vascular dementia, etc. These different forms of Dementia have different areas of brain being affected. For example, in Alzheimer’s disease, certain part of brain waste away but in case of Vascular Dementia, the blood flow to brain is hampered. So designing a well targeted drug becomes very difficult.
Various precautionary measures and preventative initiatives have been studied like, doing mental exercises, keeping oneself active, and sleep for proper time intervals, be more socialized etc.
Controlling diet like avoiding junk food, increase intake of omega-3-fatty acids, decrease boozing and cigarettes, anti-oxidant intake, etc. further adds to the rescue. A recent study has uncovered the fact that playing violin and listening to soothing music also helps to keep brain healthy and active. Music produces positive waves that relaxes our neurons and protects them from damaging reactive oxygen species produced in greater amounts during stress conditions by the body.
Thus, music adds to the list of preventative measures for Dementia.
